Eureka Recycling is the only organization in Minnesota that specializes in zero waste. The organization's services, programs, and policy work present solutions to the social, environmental, and health problems caused by wasting. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, based in the Twin Cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Eureka Recycling's mission is to demonstrate that waste is preventable, not inevitable. Because this mission is realized by any person or group that chooses to prevent waste, Eureka Recycling provides opportunities for everyone to experience firsthand that waste can be prevented.
Perhaps most well-known for its $9 million annual recycling operations, Eureka Recycling has provided curbside and apartment recycling services, education, and advocacy since 2001. Eureka Recycling has a wide range of initiatives designed to prevent the needless wasting of our discards through reuse, recycling, composting, waste reduction, producer responsibility and more. These initiatives provide over 100 jobs for individuals who demonstrate our mission every day in the work that they do.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
To safely and efficiently perform manual labor in collecting recyclables from residences and buildings in Saint Paul, Lauderdale, Roseville, Arden Hills and Saint Louis Park. Along with recording route data, providing excellent customer service and education materials, hauling to and tipping at the material recovery facility.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Zero-Waste Education Specialist assists Eureka Recycling’s customer relations and education team in educating the public about zero waste and recycling issues, engaging diverse groups of people in conversations about waste reduction and zero waste and by assuring excellent customer service to residents that Eureka Recycling serves. Specializes in communication with and education of the Hmong or Somali communities in the cities we serve.
This work involves staffing Eureka Recycling’s Zero-Waste Hotline, attending community events to talk with residents about zero waste and working with other members of the customer relations and education staff to coordinate customer service issues with operations.
This position requires a passionate and organized individual who has experience or interest in informal or community education, customer/community service and is dedicated to recycling and waste reduction and to helping others be inspired to help the environment by reducing and eliminating waste.

This position requires a motivated individual who is enthusiastic about working to educate and motivate people about the benefits of zero waste and to provide excellent customer service to residents served by Eureka Recycling’s programs. This person must be a quick learner, be skilled at engaging people in informal discussions in English and Hmong or Somali about issues and be comfortable, competent and experienced working with diverse groups of people.
This person must be effective in meeting, engaging, and communicating with diverse individuals and groups. This position also requires a person with an interest and skills in effectively managing and translating complex ideas and concepts into compelling and motivating messages, and communicating those messages to diverse audiences.

Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work will require occasional weekend and/or evening work. Occasional lifting and hauling of recycling bins and community education materials will be involved.

DESCRIPTION:
Each spring and fall Eureka Recycling organizes a recycled paper cooperative purchasing project, which gives local organizations, individuals, and businesses a chance to close the loop in recycling by purchasing high quality, 100% postconsumer recycled office paper at a reduced cost.
This intern will play a significant role helping to coordinate this small business within Eureka Recycling. A successful candidate will coordinate communications, sales and order tracking for the spring 2012 program, including promotional emails, fact sheets, website updates, as well as tracking all orders and maintaining contact with customers to guarantee delivery or pick-up, and planning for the next co-op by identifying potential customers and helping make the co-op more well known. Input of recycled paper co-op data to a contact management database will also be a portion of this work. In addition, this intern will assist with other customer relations and education projects.
Eureka Recycling is seeking a self-directed, organized individual with strong written and verbal communication skills, who is interested in learning how to manage a sustainable business that examines the triple bottom line of cost, customer service and environmental benefit as well as community-based efforts to promote zero waste.

DESCRIPTION:
Eureka Recycling is recognized as a national leader in the development and management of highly successful multifamily and apartment building recycling programs.
Recycling is one of the most important actions any person can take to reduce waste and protect the environment. Multifamily building residents and property managers however often face unique and difficult challenges in setting up programs that all people residing in the buildings can understand and take part in. This position will work with the Customer Relations and Education team to support the successful set-up and management of multifamily recycling programs in the cities of St Paul, Roseville and Lauderdale.
A successful candidate for this internship will have an interest and passion for environmental education and equity. They will be excited about opportunities to work with residents and property managers to examine specific challenges faced at each property. They will also work together with property management, residents and Eureka Recycling staff to create solutions to ensure residents in the building has access to the recycling program and a clear understanding of how to recycle in their building. Once a plan is in place to receive support from the property manager, the person in this position will identify outreach needs for individual owners, managers, and residents in apartment buildings, condominiums, and town homes. This intern will also assist staff in developing procedural and operational efficiencies in the management of various aspects of the multifamily program. By having direct contact with the public, this intern will provide excellent outreach and customer service to increase awareness of the various social, environmental and financial benefits of recycling to help motivate residents and property managers to continue to create and manage successful recycling programs.

DESCRIPTION:
Eureka Recycling is seeking an individual who is outgoing and organized with strong communication and research skills to provide assistance to the communications department staff. This internship is ideal for a person who is interested in learning how to carry out a communications plan that supports the education, advocacy, and outreach initiatives of an environmental nonprofit organization. This intern will work with the communications team on community outreach events and support Eureka Recycling’s work on preventing wasted food, including research and organizing of information, as well as other communications and outreach-related projects. S/he will come away from this experience with an understanding of the development and implementation of community-based communications, experience in research, organizing information, project management, leadership, and team collaboration.
